Your Training Plan

From your first Class A skills to a set of doubles.

Looking for more time with the equipment and skills used in truck driving jobs? This eight-week course combines the initial Class A program with four additional weeks of focused advanced training.

For the initial four-week option, explore our Class A CDL Training course.

Weeks 1–4

Build your Class A foundation

Start with our initial four-week Class A CDL training. Learn pre-trip inspections, backing and maneuvering, coupling and uncoupling, and road driving with instructors as you prepare for your Class A CDL test.

The first four weeks keep the core Class A training in place. The next four weeks build on that foundation with endorsement knowledge preparation, doubles handling, and manual transmission skills.

Week 5

Endorsement knowledge prep & thorough inspections

Prepare for the doubles/triples and tanker endorsement knowledge tests. Alongside test preparation, spend time on full, thorough pre-trip inspections to strengthen your inspection routine before moving into doubles equipment training.

This week covers knowledge test preparation for both endorsements. The hands-on combination-vehicle training in the following weeks focuses on doubles.

Week 6

Work with converter dollies & connect the set

Learn how to pre-trip a converter dolly and hook up to it. Practice straight-line backing a dolly to another trailer to connect the trailers into a set of doubles.

You will also practice separating the entire set, so your training covers both putting the equipment together and taking it apart.

Week 7

Drive doubles in real-world traffic

Get behind the wheel of a set of doubles on city roads and highways. Learn how the vehicle handles in real-world traffic as you build experience beyond the training yard.

This week brings the equipment skills from week 6 onto the road, with time focused on driving the connected set in both city and highway conditions.

Week 8

Train on a 13-speed manual transmission

Spend the week learning to float the gears of a 13-speed transmission, shifting without using the clutch. Develop the manual shifting skills you can bring to an employer’s road test for a manual truck job.

The focus is practical preparation: becoming familiar with this shifting technique and building confidence behind the wheel of a manual truck.

Take the next step in your training.
